Minister Jörg Vogelsänger


 

Jörg Vogelsänger was born on 17th May 1964 in Woltersdorf (Oder Spree administrative district) near Berlin. He is married, has two daughters and lives in Erkner.

From 1984 to 1989 he studied at the Technical University in Dresden, Mechanical Engineering Department, graduating as a Diplom Engineer.

After studying, he had the possibility to start his career with a job at the Deutsche Reichsbahn. From 1989 to 1991 he worked as a development engineer in the Reichsbahn repair workshop in Berlin Schöneweide.

With the fall of The Wall in 1989, Vogelsänger began to be politically engaged. He joined the SPD in 1990 in order to play an active role in the party’s new beginning.

By direct mandate, Vogelsänger was a member of the Brandenburg Landtag from 1994 until his election to the Bundestag in 2002. During this time he worked as a transportation spokesman for his party. After the Brandenburg state election in 2004, he became a member of the Brandenburg Landtag again through direct mandate in the constituency of Märkisch-Oderland I/Oder-Spree IV.

Jörg Vogelsänger was a Member of the German Bundestag in the 15th and 16th parliamentary term. In both 2002 and 2005, he was directly elected in the constituency Frankfurt (Oder) - Oder-Spree. In the Bundestag he was a member of the Committee for Transportation, Construction and Urban Development.

After the Brandenburg state election, he became State Secretary in the Ministry for Infrastructure and Agriculture on 6th November 2009.

On 25th February 2010, Vogelsänger was appointed Minister of Infrastructure and Agriculture of Brandenburg, an office that he held until the end of the legislative period on 8th October 2014. During this time he was chairman of both the Conference of Transport Ministers (2011/2012) as well as the Conference of Agriculture Ministers (2014).

Since 5th November 2014, Jörg Vogelsänger has been the Minister for Rural Development, Environment and Agriculture of Brandenburg (MLUL).

Beyond that, Vogelsänger executed political mandates at local and regional levels. Vogelsänger was the Chairman of the City Council in Erkner from 1990 to 2009. With the local election in 2013, he again became a city councillor in his hometown.

From 1990 to 1994, he was a member of the district council in Altkreis Fürstenwalde. From 2003 to 2009, and again since 2013, he was and is a member of the district council in the administrative district of Oder-Spree.
