NATURA 2000: A Europe-wide Network of Protected Areas

Logo Natura 2000

The Natura 2000 Europe-wide network of protected areas serves to protect biodiversity within the European Union for the long term. The implementation of Natura 2000 is therefore one of the most important tasks for the nature conservation authorities in Brandenburg.

Brandenburg is rich in special near-natural landscapes. In order to maintain the valuable habitats, plant and animal species, as well as the cultivated landscapes which can be found there, for future generations, these areas are protected by statute as nature or landscape protection areas.

The State Office for the Environment Brandenburg (LfU) mandates and accompanies the technical preparation of the management plans for flora-fauna-habitat and bird protection areas in the Brandenburg natural landscapes (large protected areas). Outside the Brandenburg natural landscapes, this is done through a project of the Stiftung Naturschutzfonds Brandenburg.
